Annually, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States sponsors the Patriot's Pen Youth Essay Contest
where students in grades 6 to 8 from across the county compete for up to $5,000 in Scholarships
by submitting an essay on a patriotic topic. This year's topic is:
"What A Veteran Taught Me about America".
Patriot's Pen Applications can be submitted either electronically using a QR code
to access the Scholarsapp Portal, or by submitting a paper application
at a local participating VFW Post (like Post 2290 in Manville) by October 31, 2026.
