Troop Care Program

To paraphrase that Beatles hit from the 60s, "were getting by with a lot of help from our friends!!!" In reality, MANY friends and acquaintances have stepped up to help us to provide support to troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Some have provided support for the Troop Care Program all along, others answered our plea for donations in the last Newsletter. In both cases THANK YOU SO MUCH, since we couldn't be running this program without YOUR participation!

And I would like to take a moment to thank a particularly generous and cooperative group of people, the folks at Crown Packaging in Branchburg, who have provided us with their second donation of 150 boxes in which to send Care Packages to our troops. Thank you so much Richard for your unquestioned willingness to support our Troops!

As a result of all these peoples' efforts as well as the volunteers who packed and labeled these boxes, by the time you read this, another shipment of Care Packages should be on its way to the troops of the 250th and 350th Finance Detachments in Iraq as well as to the members of the 11th Psysop Battalions TPD 1170.

Of course, our success in sending out boxes mean that we are yet again in need of more products and monetary donations. So, won't you please make any size donation to help us in this effort! Remember that these donations are Tax Deductible, if that's a concern for you. If you're not sure what's needed click here for a list of items we need. Thanks so much for your continued generosity and commitment to the men and women of our Armed Forces and for helping to bring a small piece of home to our troops serving overseas.

11th Psyops Battalion News

TPD 1170 is moving close to Short Timer Status, with an anticipated return date set for sometime in mid June, 2005. As any of you who have served overseas know, the last several weeks of a tour is probably the most dangerous since its a time when you're most likely to let down your guard. Please pray for the safety of all our troops, and especially TPD 1170 at this particularly perilous time.

Last month the Post shipped 4 brand new mp3 players to the members of TPD (Tactical Psychological Detachment) 1170. As most of our regular readers already know, TPD 1170 is in the business of disseminating information, often in the form of audio information broadcast from sound trucks. These mp3 players will be used by members of this unit to simplify the process of composing and playing back those recordings. We hope these will make the unit even more successful in accomplishing its mission.

And just so you don't think that the pressure is off the 11th Psysop Battalion, rumblings are that the entire Battalion will be deploying to Iraq in the summer of 2006, about a year from now. This will make at least the 4th deployment to Iraq and/or Afghanistan for this group of battle hardened Reservists

VA HEALTH CARE

The VA has added a new toll free number, 1-877-222-8387, to help veterans enroll In the VA health care system. Under eligibility rule changes that took place October 1, 1998, all veterans desiring to receive health care from the VA are encourage to enroll with the VA. This new toll free number makes that process easy and convenient Remember if you do not use the system, money from the government currently channeled for the Veterans Administration will rapidly fmd its way to other projects and programs. The only person who will be to blame for the closure of the VA facilities will be the vet who didn't enroll and register his or her need for the system.

Every Wednesday Evening at Post 2290-7:00 PM
Our primary source of income, which allows us as a non- profit organization to help our fellow vets, as well as others who ask for our help is Bingo. We have a dedicated group of comrades and sisters that work hard every Wednesday to keep our customers happy. those customers often ask us what we do with the money that we make. To keep you abreast we will publish some of our donations. We have not done so in the past because we don't want to appear to be bragging, but our comrades across the country should know. Monthly we purchase $100.00 worth of canteen books for our comrades in Lyons VAMC, we donated $1,000.00 to the Baby Thomas Fund, $1,450.00 to ARC to fulfill Christmas wishes, we donate to the Deborah Heart Hospital, and all surrounding rescue squads as our members live in the surrounding towns. Our patrons help us do what we are chartered to do- to help those in need and in the end it is our patrons that we are grateful to.
